The A56 passing under the M6 on the southern approach to the viaducts. There used to be just one bridge here and one viaduct but since around 2000 each carriageway has had its own bridge which has relieved one of the worst traffic bottlenecks. The engineering for the second viaduct took place after the closure of the Warrington to Stockport railway and with the trackbed being broken, the Trans Pennine Trail is diverted beside the A56 for a short time here.
