Twyford Lock (No 38) is the middle lock in the Stoke flight of five on the Trent and Mersey Canal. Together they provide a rise (or fall) of fifty feet (15·24 metres). I can't remember why the gate is open, the paddles are up, yet no boat appears to be approaching.
