With a view to creating a pedestrianised zone in the heart of the campus which is reflective of Sir Basil Spence’s original design ethos, it is planned to move more car parking to the periphery of the university campus. As the photo shows, the exterior of Jubilee car park building has a geometric design with a colour that matches that of napped flint. Flint nodules are a local building material which was much used in older buildings and is still used today. The building is finished with aluminium panels, the reflective properties of which help the building to blend into its surroundings in a harmonious way. The ‘panels’ are interspersed with geometrically shaped ‘portholes’ that allow natural light and ventilation at each of the levels.
