The Moot Hall, Hexham

Built as a gatehouse in the late C14. The house was the court house and stronghold of the Archbishops of York who were the Lords of the Liberty and Regality of Hexham. The Moot Hall is a Grade I listed building, and was used as a courthouse until 1838. It now houses the Council offices of the Museums Department. The ground floor is an art gallery.
