Victoria Works

The Victoria Work was one of the first purpose built factories in the Jewellery Quarter; it was built in 1839-40 by pen nib manufacturer, Joseph Gillot. At its peak 14m pen nibs were made here every week, with 80% of worldwide demand being supplied by Birmingham manufacturers. The invention of the biro in the late 1930s brought and major decline in demand, though there are still pens made in the city. I didn't notice when taking the picture, are those two gents on the corner camera shy or urinating?
