The Cirencester Civic Society blue plaque on the wall here https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6350831 states that on this site stood the 13th century St Lawrence's Church, later a Hospital for three poor widows, founded by Edith Bissett, Lady of the Manor of Wiggold. Hospital is used in its ancient sense: a charitable institution for the housing and maintenance of the needy, infirm or aged.
