Named because the local Yeomanry trained nearby and in World War 2 Polish soldiers were billeted here - from 'Village Trails in Clydesdale and Tweeddale' by Rosemary Turpie and Ian Gilchrist (Quothquan Trails 2015). The road meets the A72 at its northern end.
