The Old Manse (left) and White House (right) are both Listed C18 houses. The large number of such buildings in a place as relatively small as this is explained in 'The Buildings of England' by the fact that Newport was once a market town on the main road to Cambridge. Today it is hard to decide whether it is a small town or a large village.
