The pond was originally a reservoir for a local factory, but is now smaller due to the silt brought in by the streams on the hillside of Gwent Wildlife Trust's small reserve. The houses beyond are on Tir-y-Cwm Lane. The outflow from the near end of the pond goes into a tributary of the Ebbw River.
