The Whittington Stone on Highgate Hill. The memorial is thought to be near the spot where 'Dick Whittington', desenchanted and returning home after not making his fortune in London, heard the bells of St Mary-le-Bow ring out, 'Turn again Whittington, thrice Lord Mayor of London'. Today a pantomine character, based a real character from Pauntley in Gloucestershire Image The memorial was erected in 1821 and restored in 1935, and the cat sculpture was added in 1964.
