The station, built in 2003 on the site of a former ironworks that closed in 1992, replaced the old stations at Bramley (now the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service HQ) and Pudsey. It is "a specialist station deploying high-volume pumps involved in the movement of large quantities of water both to and away from an incident".
