The timber framing construction is not a facade - much of this extensive building dates back to the 15th & 16th centuries, although it's been substantially altered over the years and has variously been houses, an inn, post office and currently mainly shops and cafes. The oldest parts are now at the rear, rather hidden from the street; the whole caboodle was Grade II* listed https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101270685-old-post-office-inn-shrewsbury#.Xb_kXej7RPY & https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1270685 in 1953.
