Rainbows are multicoloured arcs that are caused when the sun shines onto droplets of moisture in the earth's atmosphere. The rainbow colours range from red (on the outside) and violet (on the inside). More rarely, a secondary rainbow can be seen: this is a second arc of a fainter colour display, outside the primary arc, with its colours arranged in the opposite order.
