2009 saw the completion of a £12 million redevelopment programme that included this new entrance and Visitor Centre. The Blists Hill vicinity had long been identified as the site for an open air industrial heritage museum and a trust was set up in August 1971 to raise money for its development, with the museum finally opening in 1973.
