This is officially called Staveley Lane but as a child knew it as Staveley Hill.It doesn't look as if anyone has trimmed the hedges for many years. There used to be a clear view to beyond the entrance to The Green which is behind the greenery in the centre of the image. As a child one lived nearby and sometimes (aged less than 5!) sought entertainment by pushing one's tricycle up Staveley Hill and then free-wheeling back down and seeing how far along Southgate one could get without pedalling; alternatively one pedalled and had races with the cars, buses and tractors! Laterone did the same on a 2 wheeled scooter!
