Meadowhall Interchange was constructed and opened in 1990 to service the nearby Meadowhall Shopping Centre. It effectively replaced Brightside station further west although that did not close fully until 1995. Located on a junction rail platforms 1 & 2 are located on one spur, Dearne Valley line, adjacent to the Super Tram platforms and bus station, whilst rail platforms 3 & 4 are on the other spur - Hallam and Penistone lines. A BR Class 158 is seen leaving for Sheffield from Platform 3.
