The centre was founded in 1974 and has evolved into a professional counselling agency with a reputation for providing a high standard of care to its clients and providing good support and on-going training for its counsellors. The centre is a not-for-profit organisation and aims to offer affordable counselling open to everyone. The building housing it was originally a small mission church and dates from 1866.
