Walking past earlier in the day I wondered whether the name had to do with beer, or perhaps milk. Later I stopped to photograph this sign - no jugs (in the usual sense of the word), but baskets of fish. As is often the case around here, Simon Carey can be relied on for the historical background - 'juggs' were the baskets used by Brighton fishwives to carry their wares over the Downs to Lewes market: Image
