The outer panels remember the former use of the building beyond, before conversion to a hospital in 1910 - the Rose and Crown beer house. The centre panel is a memorial to hoppers who died in the Great War, rendered is a rather conservative way, with the use of Gothic script and reference to 'Old England'. The small plaque above remembers Alexander Forsythe Asher, who was priest of St Augustine's, Stepney for 53 years from 1893. He was curate until 1922, then vicar.
