The cycle route here crosses a minor road and kissing gates are provided. It is probably intentional that as you leave the road the gates can be pushed open to allow passage without dismounting, but on the approach they cannot. Reminders that you are passing through an area of almost legendary toxic hazard which is carefully managed by the Environment Agency are rife!
