One of several houses in Idstone built with brick and chalk blocks. The Downs above Idstone are capped with rock of the White Chalk subgroup. Chalk is generally understood to be soft, but that of this subgroup is hard enough to use as long-lasting building stone. https://www.bgs.ac.uk
