The chapel at St John's School, Leatherhead, completed in 1962 and dedicated on 13 June 1963. It replaced the old chapel, situated in front of the main building in Epsom Road, originally built in 1876, which then became a library. The £50,000 cost of the new chapel was provided by an anonymous benefactor who had been persuaded to donate the funds by Viscount Montgomery of Alamein, chairman of the governors at the time. in 2010 it was revealed that the donor was the Canadian businessman, Garfield Weston. The architects, also appointed after being approached by Lord Montgomery, were the firm Seely & Paget.
