This area of derelict mine waste is the car parking area associated with the adjacent car racing track. It is indicative of the marginal value of the land that was abandoned with the closure of the local mines, though the wider area of the United Mines to the west has been turned over to industrial use or remediated to a large extent. The distant engine house is not named on old Ordnance Survey maps which are accessible.
