Carrshield is a small settlement in the West Allen valley. That valley has seen extensive mining activity in the past much of it centred at the Barneycraig site. The building is the Barneycraig Mineshop where there were workshops and lodgings for miners; it has been derelict for years as is seen in Mike Quinn's image from 2011 - https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2331364. The mineshop is grade II listed, is part of a scheduled ancient monument and has been restored and converted to a camping barn - https://independenthostels.co.uk/members/carrshieldcampingbarn/ opening in 2019.
