The Shell Guide to Lincolnshire says of Owston Ferry: "A well-built village. The views over the river, at the bottom of the village street, are like a Dutch painting." In the evening light this view looks from the flood bank at Owston Ferry across to East Ferry on the other side. Most of the settlements on the west bank of the Trent have their counterparts on the east side, and numerous ferries plied between the two sides in former times. This is just now remembered in the various names involving 'ferry'; in East Ferry there is also a Ferry Farm.
