"The Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey is an American multi-mission, tilt rotor military aircraft with both vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL), and short takeoff and landing". It appears that they are operated by the USAF from RAF Mildenhall their primary role is in support of special forces operations. The pair that I saw here were on low-flying training over the so-called 'Mach-loop'. It had been suggested that the Osprey was to form part of the equipment for the two new aircraft carriers entering service with the Royal Navy but were not subsequently purchased by the UK.
