The line between Doncaster and Gainsborough was opened in 1867. Since then all the intervening stations have been closed but the line itself is still open and busy. Haxey & Epworth station opened as Haxey on 9th July 1867 and was renamed Haxey & Epworth in May 1884. Between 1905 and 1956 it was also the junction with the Axholme Joint Railway - see https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6261687 The station closed to passengers on 2nd February 1959 and to freight on 29th June 1965. The line though is still open.
