The Muir o' Fauld station is one of several built along the Gask Ridge between the Tay and Strathallan. This was briefly, c. 80AD, the northern frontier of their empire. After 10 years they pulled back to northern England. The signal stations were close to each other making unauthorised movement southwards difficult.
