Restored by Christabel Aberconwy and her son the now Hon. Christopher McLaren in 1959 and dedicated to the god Helios and the summer of 1959 ''when the sun shone every day - no winds blew and no rain fell.'' Maenan Hall was bought in 1945 by the second Lord Aberconway, owner of Bodnant and creator of much of its garden. Set on the slopes of the Conwy Valley, these beautiful gardens are set amongst mature hardwoods, similar to those at Bodnant. His wife, Christabel, inherited the property and is currently occupied by his son the Hon Charles Mclaren and his wife who open them to the public – usually for a couple of weekends during May and August, otherwise they are private gardens. There are sweeping lawns, ornamental ponds as well as a tranquil woodland dell which features magnolias, rhododendrons, camellias, pieris, cherries and hydrangeas, among others. The Hall is now Grade I listed and dated to 15th century.
