This building dates from the early 18th century. It is said to have been part of the original fort, used as a powder store. It was later used as an engine room, during construction of the canal. It is behind what is now the Richmond House Hotel. It is a Category B listed building. http://portal.historicenvironment.scot/designation/LB1867
