The Norman borough of Newport consisted of two parallel streets running from the new castle in the south to the old castle in the north. The borough was bounded by two mill-streams; Afon Felin to the west and Afon Ysgolheigion to the east. Both streams, running off the slopes of Carn Ingli, fed multiple mills.They wouldn't drive much now.
