This busy junction is where the B4161 (from Goldthorn Hill and Bilston) meets the A454 Wolverhampton to Bridgnorth Road in the Smestow Valley. The bridge over the main road used to carry the Wolverhampton to Stourbridge (via Wombourne) railway line which only carried passengers from 1925 to 1932. Freight was stopped in 1965 and the line is now used for an excellent leisure route linking Valley Park with the South Staffordshire Railway Walk.
