This country inn has an interesting name. The highest-profile Marquis seems to have been Sir John George Edward Henry Douglas Sutherland Campbell, K.G., G.C.M.G., who was Governor-General of Canada in the 1870's and 80's. However, the pub sign depicts a gentleman from the 17th. century.
