Grade II Listed hotel of 1833 with 'R.W.' on rainwater head on extension to rear. By J Foulston of Plymouth. It was abandoned and derelict in 1989, but a property developer purchased it in 2001 with plans to return it to its original state. Fire crews were called in October 2003 to the empty hotel to a fire thought to have been started deliberately. It was reopened in 2005 as a mixed use facility incorporating office and residential elements and is now the offices of the Cornish Times. A search of my directories found; 1844-1852 Robert Webb (& posting house); 1856 J B Brown (& posting house); 1873-1897 J W Chegwidden, manager Webb's Hotel Co. Ltd.; 1902 Miss Williams, manageress Webb's Hotel Co. Ltd.; 1906-1914 Miss Lockyer, manageress Webb's Hotel Co. Ltd.
