I understand that this old castle (I suspect designed more to impress than for any serious defensive purpose) had been extended over the centuries, but about 60 years ago the extensions were demolished and the castle restored to something like its original form. Very fine it is too, though I might want to install a lift! The track leading past the building is private, but the more westerly track (from which this photo was taken) is open to walkers.
