Udny Station lost its passenger service in 1965, and the entire railway in 1979, but the village retains its name. In the late 1980s the track was lifted to create this route for walkers, cyclists and horse-riders from Dyce (Aberdeen) to Peterhead and Fraserburgh. There is some talk of re-opening the line, but I cannot imagine that would be very popular with the recreational users.
