Viewed from the Bear Pit in Mersey Square, through one of the arches of Wellington Road which passes above. At this point the river has just emerged into daylight after passing under the Merseyway Shopping Centre. A new bridge across the river between here and the railway viaduct was laid in November 2018 Image to link Heaton Lane and Chestergate via Astley Street. Although it appears to be completed Image it has yet been opened to traffic.
