Derelict building on the corner of Castle Street and Castle Terrace viewed in July 2019. Emlyn Hall is Neuadd Emlyn in Welsh. The Cinema Treasures website records that this building was originally Central Hall, which opened as a cinema in 1914. After the opening of the Castle Cinema in 1954, Central Hall closed in 1955. In 1960 the hall became the property of the town, financed by public donations and a grant. After refurbishment, it reopened as the Emlyn Hall on September 30th 1961. There was a small stage for concerts. Another refit took place in 1992 and films were shown again for a while in 1993 (the Castle Cinema had long since closed). Attendances were poor. By 2010 the hall had become the Apple Dance Studio. In 2012 high winds damaged the roof, forcing closure. It has remained in a dilapidated state ever since. Attempts to obtain grants to enable it to reopen have not yet been successful.
