Station Road bridge, Sandiacre

This is the former Midland Railway main line up the Erewash Valley. Sandiacre & Stapleford station - long since closed and removed - was on the far side of the bridge and you can see how the two left hand tracks have been aligned to swing round the station platform. These tracks were a later addition to cope with the enormous volume of coal traffic heading from the local coalfields and south Yorkshire towards London. In the distance is Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station
