The small building in the foreground is the old school. An educational facility was first established as a Charity School in 1842. As the village pupils increased in time, an extension was added in 1887. however, the village population, historically based on sheep farming and the wool trade, dwindled in the twentieth century. Eventually the school closed in the 1960s. After remaining derelict for many years, the community gathered to buy and restore it in the 1990s. It is now a community facility, retaining many original features. The church stands beyond.
