The old A5 was the main route from Holyhead through and out of Anglesey, and would have been the main focus of defence had the Germans landed at Holyhead. The village of Pentre Berw was one of the areas chosen for the defensive effort along the route, where there are still visible signs of some of the defences that were constructed. The photo shows one of the five defensive walls manned by the Home Guard built in the area, defences that were also supplemented by two pillboxes located north and south of the A5. Image
