Taken from Preston Drove which was the original route the village of Preston was built on. The main north-south route came after the 18th century discovery of Brighton. The Crown & Anchor pub on the left at the junction of Preston Road and North Road was built in 1711 as the first stop on the London-Brighton coach route, though it was rebuilt in 1894 the same date the shops to the right were added.
