The close is named after Stan Petersen, who was Lord Mayor of Norwich in 1984. He had moved from London to Norwich in 1968 to join the now defunct advertising company 'Tibbenhams' which was located in Thorpe Road. In 1973 he was elected as Labour councillor of Thorpe Hamlet.
