This was not the original lifeboat station at Campbeltown, 1861 The RNLI established a lifeboat station and a boathouse was built at the New Quay. This station was established in 1898 and operated until 1929 when the lifeboat was moored at the Old Quay in Campbeltown Harbour. The first boat to be stationed here was the 'James Stevens'. This picture shows carved text on a stone tablet on the south wall of the station bearing the initials 'RNLBI' and not the expected 'RNLI'.
