Much of this grid-square is taken up by cemeteries, sewage works and the Kingstonian stadium, not leaving much room for residential streets. One side of Hampden Road is residential, the other industrial. A neighbouring street is known as Gladstone Road - which gives a fair clue as to the date of development. Beyond the gates at the end of the road there is an athletics stadium - hence the floodlighting.
