The site was originally Dyke Farm Quarry, operated by Patersons of Greenoakhill Ltd for the extraction of sand and gravel. This was used for the upgrading of the M74 motorway, the Beattock gas compressor station, the wood pulp mill at Lockerbie and houses in Moffat (information from reserve sign).
