The street pattern of this part of the Smithfield Conservation Area reflects the market layout on a northeast-southwest axis, with East Passage running between Long Lane and Middle Street. Hayne Street, on the far side of Long Lane, can be seen through the passage beside the Long Lane pub (formerly Ye Olde Red Cow).
