Mouldsworth is the first stop out of Chester on the line to Manchester via Northwich. It was opened by the Cheshire Lines Committee, and was a junction station with a branch (mainly for freight, apart from summertime holiday specials) to Helsby where it joined another route to Birkenhead. The station buildings still stand but are no longer in railway use; the signalbox that controlled the junction has been demolished.
