Now a guest house The Observatory in Falmouth dates back to 1884 when the foundation stone was laid by Lord Mount Edgcumbe, the President of the Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society. The roof was reinforced to take equipment for the study of wind, rainfall and the stars. The original telescope used at The Observatory is now held at Kew Gardens.
