An unusually large church for the area, which dates in parts, such as the base of the tower, from at least the 12th century, and holds a Celtic cross (the Cwgan Stone) which may well be 9th century. The church has undergone extensive changes and restorations over the years, notably in the 15th and 19th centuries, but was nonetheless Grade II* listed https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/300000636-church-of-st-dogfan-llanrhaeadr-ym-mochnant#.XOw0xohKjcs in 1966.
